I think the key difference between Auremo and MusicBee is that Auremo is an MPD client, and so it saves the playlist on the RPi. The Volumio Android client does not work for me (I get an error connecting to my RPi), but MPDroid works fine, and I can see the playlist I created with Auremo, and I can start the playlist on the RPi from my phone.Ĭheck out Auremo and see if it works for you. The resulting Auremo playlist appears in the “Library” section of the Volumio UI (not in “Playlists”). That still means I have to start from scratch to create new playlists, which is not what I want to do. I found a free Windows app called Auremo ( /) that lets me create playlists within the MPD framework, and I can save the playlist to my RPi. Then the developers could focus their time on making the server features better, instead of worrying about finding a non-standard way to manage playlists. It would be much better, IMHO, if the Volumio developers could simply support standard playlists so people can use the playlist manager of their choice. So far the only thing I managed to do is create a small play queue with a few tracks and save that as a playlist, but that’s not very useful I also can’t figure out how to create playlists and manage them in the Volumio UI as it’s not intuitive. Unfortunately this does not work for me, but I can’t find any documentation on how playlists are supposed to work on Volumio. Because it takes so long to create and manage playlists the ideal thing would be for Volumio to detect these existing standard playlists when it scans the music library and be able to choose them directly from the Volumio UI. I use VLC Player to do the same thing, and over the years I have all my CDs ripped to a NAS, and I created a set of playlists in the root of the NAS. I haven’t used MusicBee is, but I just looked at the website and it looks pretty much like VLC Player, right? It’s a PC-based music player and I guess you can create and save standard playlists. I posted a similar question the other day, and while Michelangelo was kind enough to answer, his response didn’t really tell me anything Full disclosure - I’m a total newbie on Volumio who is also trying to figure out why there is such poor playlist support. That link will always give you the very latest version, which at the time of posting this is version. ![]() Run it and install the program, then download this zip file: -Įxtract the contents of that zip to the MusicBee installation directory, overwriting the files that are there. To install it, download the installer from this thread:. The developer has just released RC2 of version 2.0 and a lot has been fixed/added/changed in that version so I'd strongly recommend going straight for that. Oh yeah, the main link on the site is to download version 1.4. You'll also find various skins and add-ons on the forums too, including different custom views you can download for the Theater Mode I mentioned above. I've asked for 2 features to be implemented and both were added less than a week after I asked. There's some knowledgeable folks there when it comes to the more advanced features and the developer is pretty awesome at responding to requests. If you get stuck or would like a feature implementing, post on the MusicBee forum. ![]() MusicBee is free and it doesn't automatically associate itself with music files or any of that crap, so if you don't like it you can just uninstall it and carry on as you were.Īlso, if you can customize options to export music to USB devices, like putting them in folders based on a tag property. With MusicBee closed, extract the contents of that zip to your MusicBee installation folder, overwriting the original files. To get to the very latest beta version (which is very stable and adds a bunch of new features), download this zip file:. If you want to give it a go, you can download it here:. ![]() Here's a screenshot of it running on my PC (open in a new tab for a full screen view):. Whoever made it was clearly inspired by MediaMonkey, but it's like a slicker, nicer looking version of it. ITunes on Windows is a big bag of cack and while MediaMonkey is great, some features are locked away behind a pay wall and the user interface leaves a lot to be desired IMO.Įarlier on I discovered another music player/manager called MusicBee.
